Mikey's birthday was last week and even though we celebrated it with Gram and also with my family over Thanksgiving, I had to make a big deal about it on his actual birthday. When he woke up, Tom and I brought his balloons into his room which he thought was pretty great. I love, love, love the way he calls them "ballooms." I just can't bring myself to correct him.
We spent the day eating his favorite foods: waffles, peanut butter, apples, mac and cheese. Pretty fancy I know. He also got to go to his best buddy Lacey's house for "preschool." I wish I had a picture of them because they are so cute together. At Lacey's they learned about the letter "I" and had ice cream for his birthday. He couldn't wait to tell me that he got to blow out a candle at Lacey's house. That night a couple of our friends came over to celebrate along with "Aunt" Janie (who's really my cousin). Aunt Janie is pretty much a celebrity around here. She had been working at the hospital since 4:30 that morning and still made time to come hang out with little Mikey...no wonder she's so popular around here. Even though it looks a little lame, Mikey loved his Super Why birthday cake. The next day when we were having left overs, he insisted that I sing "Happy Birthday" to him again and then pretended to blow out the candles. Oh, how I love Mikey.
I'm sure I've said this before, but one thing my friend Erica told me when I was pregnant with Mikey is that I would be amazed at how my ability to love would grow with each addition to the family. How true. I can't imagine life without Mikey. He's fun, funny, sweet and contented He has started to become sassy which is a little disconcerting but also good because I know he can stand up for himself. Mikey is truly a blessing in our lives and I'm so happy I have the privilege of being his mom.

Yeah for Mikey! We love you! Glad you had such a fun B-day. I like the idea of bringing balloons to him in the morning.
