Last week my parents came up. We had a great time celebrating my mom's birthday. Tyler decided that Grandma would want a football helmet cake. Isn't that thoughtful? He takes special care when it comes to birthday cakes.
Grandma took Tyler on an awesome outing to the Oklahoma City Temple. He was so excited to go that he got dressed right when he woke up and spent the next two hours saying, "Is it time to go to the temple? Is it time to go to the temple?" My mom helped with an activity for kids and brought Tyler along. He had a great time and has been sharing bits and pieces with us each day since then. Doesn't my mom dominate?!While my mom had Tyler at the temple, my dad changed almost all the outlets in our house. Seriously? How did I get such awesome parents? While Mom and Ty were at the temple and dad was working in the house, Tom and I ripped up and re-did our front flower beds.
I wish we had a real before picture so you could properly see its nastiness. The bushes on the left (ripped out in this pic) were dead and the garden was completely overgrown with weeds. Everything was just gross. Tom and I wanted to do something low maintenance and low budget so we bought stones, dirt, mulch and a couple new bushes. It took the entire day but we were happy with the result. We were extra happy that we did something low maintenance because it's been over 100 degrees here every day since we finished, so I'm sure we would have killed anything cooler.
Tyler loves the show Dinosaur Train and continually talks about herbivores, meat eaters "mean eaters" and omnivores. The other day he grabbed all the spinach off his plate and said, "I'm going to be a herbivore!" He stuck it all in his mouth and ate everything. I love my little dinosaur.
On Friday, Bekah dropped off her kids so she and Jim could go to the temple. We had a blast. Tyler has been asking about Ellie lately and I was so happy they could play together. Mikey was excited about all the action and jumped right in with the big kids. Averi is the sweetest thing ever. I was talking to Huck (Bekah's new little boy) and saying, "Hey sweet thing. Are you going to talk to me?" Averi came over and said, "Emily, he can't talk. He doesn't know how." LOVE that girl! We were sad when they left but excited we get to see them this weekend at the family reunion.
I'm kind of obsessed with Groupon so we had a family Groupon Date yesterday. It started with bowling. The boys loved it! Mikey danced to the loud music the entire time. He was falling down on the floor and scooting all around. I love that happy boy! When he pushed the ball down the ramp, he'd say, "Oh MAN!"
Tyler was mister competitive but in a nice way. He was pumped about each ball down the lane. When we were finished, he said, "I WON!" Later, he decided that all of us won. It's fun to play games with Tyler because he's so happy to be playing. Everyone wins and each move brings a celebration. We ended with frozen yogurt at one of those self serve places. Tyler chose pink lemonade yogurt with skittles and chocolate syrup. Doesn't that sound great? Eww...luckily mine was better.
What a good life. To top it off, right now I'm watching the season finale of The Bachelorette with Tom (my dream guy) and the person I liked got picked. Oh how nice.

So cute about the "life is good." Kids really are good about enjoying the simple things in life.
I enjoyed hearing about your latest happenings and seeing all the pictures.
Great work on your yard!
PS Did I tell you that your cute fam. and OK were featured in our presentation of America on Sat. at our ward activity?
Your house and yard are looking so good. I have to admit I felt the need to get with the program with our house once I saw yours! We put our slide back inside and the girls keep showing me all their cool tricks they learned at your house. I love it. :)
