Don't Mess with Mama Bird!

I hate it when I'm out with Tyler and strangers come up and touch him and put their face right up to his. I want to say, "Get your dirty hands away from my healthy baby!" but instead I usually say something like, "Oh, he really likes it if you touch his FEET instead." My parents have teased me a little about how I made everyone wash their hands a million times before holding Tyler. What can I say, I'm protective of my little guy. I found a fellow protective mama right outside my house. These eggs are nesting in our backyard.
We had a BBQ on Saturday (Happy Birthday Tom and Mike) and played games in our back yard. We saw a bird that wouldn't fly way. She was squawking really loudly and walking around the yard.
Then, she acted like her wing was broken and started limping around...all the while you could tell she was totally bugged by what we were doing.
We finally realized that she was trying to lead us away from her little eggs. It was amazing! Today when I was out taking pictures, she flew at me like she was going to attack. (Don't worry I got away.) There was a big rainstorm on Sunday and we saw her hunkered down over her eggs. This lady means business!
Isn't it cool how all of us mamas are a little protective?

I totally understand what you mean! Some people are very clueless about personal space with babies, especially when they touch their hands and then their hands go straight into their mouths.

How fun to have the mama bird and eggs in your back yard. You'll have to post pics. of the babies when they hatch, if the mama lets you get close enough!

PS I thought this was a very fun post for the OK Robins Nest blog!

I was the same way about people washing their hands when Olivia was born. And I'm sure I offended a lot of people. oops :) You get over it to some degree with the next.

I totally understand! With Max I'm a little less intense about it but it still bugs me. Yesterday I about lost it on the lady at the grocery store who helps with self checkout. She asked if I needed any help and I said no, but then Max started fussing so she walked around and handed him his pacifier (had to dig to find it) and then hovered and kept giving it back when he would spit it out, etc, all the while holding her little scanning tool in the other hand and gabbing away. I was just looking at her like "are you serious? I'm going to chop your germy hands off!" but she didn't get it and i was afraid i'd be a beast if i opened my mouth and told her to stop it. anyways. Max is still alive and this is a long comment, but I'm glad to know I'm not alone! ;o)
